Risk warning

In shortTrading leveraged products such as forex and CFDs carries a high risk of losing money rapidly. Most retail accounts lose money. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.

General risk warning

Trading foreign exchange, contracts for difference (CFDs), futures, options, cryptoassets and leveraged products carries a high level of risk and is not suitable for everyone. Leverage can work against you as well as for you: losses can exceed your deposits with some providers. Prices can move quickly and gap, and orders such as stops may not be executed at the price you set.

Many retail investors lose money trading these products. We do not state a percentage for any provider; if you use a regulated broker, your broker is required to show its own risk warning and the proportion of retail accounts that lose money. Read it before you trade.

Specific risks to understand

  • Leverage and margin. A small price move can produce a large loss relative to your deposit. Margin calls can close positions at a loss.
  • Volatility around data. Central-bank decisions and releases such as CPI and payrolls can move prices sharply, widen spreads and cause slippage.
  • Models and frameworks are fallible. Indicators such as a risk gauge, a yield curve reading or the 18.6-year cycle describe conditions or patterns. They are not predictions, and any of them can be wrong for long periods.
  • Past and simulated performance. Past performance, and any simulated or hypothetical result, does not guarantee future results. Simulated results have limits, including that they do not reflect real execution, costs or emotion.
  • Automation. Automated tools such as expert advisors can malfunction, lose their connection, or trade in conditions they were not designed for. You remain responsible for the account.
  • Costs. Spreads, commissions, overnight financing and platform fees reduce results.
